What is an Autoimmune Disease?
Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own healthy cells, unable to distinguish them from foreign invaders. In children, common diseases include type 1 diabetes, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, lupus, and celiac disease. These conditions lead to inflammation and other symptoms, but while they can't be cured, treatments can effectively manage them.
